The Apple Pin

Knowing my passion for all things Apple, a longtime friend presented me with a special Apple pin commemorating the 2010 Winter Olympics which were held in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago.

Murphy Bed Concept

In a previous post I talked about getting a Murphy bed for my new space. Since that initial entry, I have been exploring my options about different design concepts. I have settled on a couple of options.

First of all, I have decided that I am going to construct it myself. In addition, the bed will be of the side-mount variety to save space even more. Standard length for a vertical version of this type of bed is typically about 2 metres (about 7 feet). If I go with a double-sized mattress, the depth of this type of bed will be around 1 metre (about 3 feet). That's half!

Second of all, instead of simply folding up the bed when it's not in use, why not do it with some sense of style? The image above illustrates one possible concept, which is not only elegant but would become a piece of wall art.

Getting Prepped for Moving Day

Even though the actual move-in date isn't until later this month, we began the process of packing away things this past weekend. Every couple days more and more stuff will be readied for moving day. Doing it this way will definitely make it easier once that magic day arrives. Next week I plan to clear out the storage locker downstairs and move all that stuff to the new dwelling.

The Fabulous Weather Continues

The fabulously warm weather, which started last week and which continued throughout the weekend, is still with us today. This morning I woke up to see clear blue skies and a glorious sun beaming through my apartment window. It feels so wonderful.

Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier

While a customer dropped off a Mac which was in need of service today, she told me about a provocative documentary on Frontline. Since 1983 this American public affairs series on PBS has a tradition of always being insightful and thought provoking. It explores a wide range of issues with a quality and depth all its own. Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier continues that tradition.

This documentary asks the question: What does it mean to be human in a 21st-century digital world?

Within a single generation, digital media and the World Wide Web have transformed virtually every aspect of modern culture, from the way we learn and work to the ways in which we socialize and even conduct war. But is the technology moving faster than we can adapt to it? And is our 24/7 wired world causing us to lose as much as we've gained?

In Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier, award-winning producer Rachel Dretzin continues a line of investigation she began with the 2008 FRONTLINE report Growing Up Online, where she embarks on a journey to understand the implications of living in a world consumed by technology and the impact that this constant connectivity may have on future generations. "I'm amazed at the things my kids are able to do online, but I'm also a little bit panicked when I realize that no one seems to know where all this technology is taking us, or its long-term effects," says Dretzin.
