On Friday, July 17, 2009 at the age of 92, one of my most beloved icons while I was growing up in the 1960s and 1970s and a legend in the world of news media passed away peacefully in Manhattan after a long battle with cerebrovascular disease.
In the New York Post, they said of Walter Cronkite:
".....the legendary CBS news anchor who became known as 'the most trusted man in America' while reporting on some of the darkest and most joyous events of the 20th century."
At the conclusion of each newscast, he always wrapped things up with this now famous line,
"And that's the way it is."
Rest in peace.
