Reflecting on Charlie Chaplin

Being a diehard Charlie Chaplin fan, I wanted to share with you three of my most favourite scenes from his films.

Above is the famous eating machine scene from his 1936 film, Modern Times, which focussed on the dehumanisation of people through machinisation. Even though synchronised sound films had been commercially available since 1923, this film went against the grain because it was silent. It was the last silent film which Chaplin would produce.

Above is the famous globe scene from his 1940 film, The Great Dictator. Like a great ballet, this scene embodies elegance and grace.

Above is the famous scene of Charlie Chaplin, playing a washed up comedian who briefly regains past glory, in concert with Buster Keaton , in Chaplin's 1952 film, Limelight. This scene is such a delight to watch because of its beautiful and flawless timing. Every time I have viewed this film, it has always pulled at my heart strings and made me cry at the end.
