Since I never completed high school because of tremendous difficulties with academics while I was growing up, I have decided to grab the proverbial bull by the horns and get my high school diploma. Once that's done, I am aiming for bigger and greater things, but that will be another story which I will relate here on my blog.
A few weeks ago, as a prerequisite for entrance to the GED program at St. Christopher House, I had to write some pre-tests called the CAAT, Canadian Adult Achievement Tests. If I passed these tests, then I would be accepted into the program. A couple of weeks ago, I received a call from St. Christopher House and was informed that I had done very well. The coordinator set up an appointment for me to attend an orientation session on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 7.
Yesterday just before 4 pm I arrived at St. Christopher House for the orientation session. I had to wait for a short time while the coordinator, a warm and friendly Filipino woman, waited for two other people who would also be attending the session. At around 4 pm the other two arrived and the coordinator led us into a small room. There she explained what was involved in the program. One of the prerequisites, which she emphasised, was that each of us must commit to at least 3 days a week for 4 hours on each of those days. She also said that most participants complete the program in 4 to 6 months. Fuelled by great excitement for the program, I am feeling very ambitious about completing the program in far less time than even the minimum 4 months.
Afterwards, the coordinator escorted us to the computer lab, which we would be using for the duration of the program, where we were instructed about how to use the software. Before leaving, the coordinator asked us to do one of the pre-tests just to familiarize ourselves with how the system actually worked; basically, to get our feet wet. The first test I decided to tackle was one of the math modules, which I bravely forged through in about 90 minutes. Like the starship Enterprise in Star Trek XI rising majestically from the clouds of Titan, I too will rise.
To help keep me inspired, I have chosen Faith of the Heart, which was used as the theme song for Enterprise, as my theme song.
Born in Toronto on May 4, 1962 to English and Ukranian parents, I am a typical Taurus, with a diverse and eclectic range of passions (appearing in no particular order) including jazz and classical music, astronomy, photography, cycling, the outdoors, my fox terrier (Asta), Star Trek, New York City, National Geographic magazines, and Apple computers (both new and old).
