Seeing Avatar

Last night a group of eight of us ventured to Scotiabank Toronto to catch the 7 o'clock showing of James Cameron's sci-fi spectacle, Avatar, in IMAX 3D. We arrived at the cinema just before 6 pm - an hour before showtime - and waited in line. About 45 minutes later, the line finally began to move. As we we entered the theatre, we collected our special glasses which were required to view the film.
Part of our entourage included my long-time friends, Henry (at left) and Philip (behind him), who posed for the camera with their 3D glasses.
An old ex, Phillip (at left) and a new acquaintance, Graham (at centre), also posed for the camera with their 3d glasses.

Before the main feature started, we were treated to a laser show which demonstrated the power of the IMAX system.

Below is a synopsis of the film as detailed on Wikipedia:

"Avatar is a 2009 American science fiction film written and directed by James Cameron, and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe SaldaƱa, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang. The film is set in the year 2154 on Pandora, a fictional Earth-like moon in a distant planetary system. Humans are engaged in mining Pandora's reserves of a precious mineral, while the Na'vi — the sapient and sentient race of humanoids indigenous to the moon — resist the colonists' expansion, which threatens the continued existence of the Na'vi and the Pandoran ecosystem. The film's title refers to the remotely controlled, genetically engineered human-Na'vi bodies used by the film's human characters to interact with the natives."

More information about Avatar can be found on Wikipedia and at the official web site for Avatar.
