While brunching today at Zelda's, I noticed a bottle of Heinz ketchup on my table. This in and of itself was nothing special, but what was written on the bottle was. Unbeknownst to me 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the Heinz brand in Canada. For as long as I can remember, this brand has been synonymous with ketchup.
Here's a bit of historical trivia about Heinz.
In the U.S., Heinz launched its first Tomato Ketchup in 1876.
Heinz was at the forefront of exploring natural preservation, and in 1906 was first to launch a Ketchup free from artificial preservatives.
By 1907, Heinz was producing 12 million bottles of ketchup per year, exporting ketchup all over the world, including Australia, South America, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK.
