ADD Sleep Study

After the ADD meeting on Monday, a group of us went to Tim Horton's for a social. There I had an opportunity to chat with one of the senior co-ordinators of the group. During our conversation we discussed strategies for dealing with ADD, including medications, which I have been reluctant to take since I had a very bad experience many years ago. Before I left that night, he mentioned that a noted ADD specialist at CAMH was conducting a research study on adults with ADD and that there might still be spots available. I expressed definite interest in this, and so we exchanged email addresses.

On Tuesday, an email, with all the contact information, appeared from the person with whom I had been chatting the night before. Shortly thereafter, I fired off an email to the researcher who was conducting the study. I expressed that I was most interested in participating in the study, if there were still spots available. I also mentioned that I had been referred to this study from someone at the ADD group.

On Thursday, I decided to call the person who was conducting the study. In my first attempt, I had to leave a message. A couple of hours later, I received a call from the research assistant. She explained that they were still spots available, but it was not simply one study which they were doing it was three. So I needed to decide in which one of the three I was most interested. Of the three offerings, I was most intrigued by the sleep study and so I chose that one. That done, she arranged for me to come in next Tuesday morning and do the necessary in-take work. She also emailed me a form which needed to be completed by my family doctor and presented to her on my in-take day.

For some time now I haven't had a family doctor and I needed to find one so that I could have this form completed. I talked with my friend, Peter, who recommended that I call his doctor. He was currently taking in new patients. So I called his secretary and asked if the doctor was indeed taking in new patients. She indicated yes, and so then and there I arranged an appointment for next Monday.
